Don't worry about it. Shaming of the Sun was a pretty good album.

Oh noes!
Thank goodness you are helping them complete their list of offensive materials! Lest my delicate senses be offended in passing!

I love the power of the people that comes with the internet!

Great vid!

Very good vlog. This whole thing is just insane. I hope they release a statement soon and adjust things.

This is amazing.

I've been suggesting that everyone shop Powell's instead. They're considering a sale on GLBT books in response to this debacle.

Awesome

ETA: In case you didn't know, you can create a video review for books on Amazon. Perhaps this needs to be a review for some of those books that make you gay? :-)

Amazon's fail whale
Loved your video, and posted it on FB.

Seriously, though, amazon's decision is worse than it seems.

It's important to realize that they're not just ghettoizing gay books, but also gay authors, whether a book has much gay content or not.

My 19th book is a memoir about my family's encounters with Germany--my parents in the Holocaust, mine as an author with books translated into German.

Here are amazon reader tags for "My Germany," which has been de-ranked:

holocaust(7)
lev raphael(7)
memoir(7)
germany(6)
jewish(6)
judaica(5)
gay and lesbian(4)
gay(1)

The tags accurately reflect the book's themes and subjects (though it's also a travelogue and I don't know if that's an amazon tag or not).

http://www.levraphael.com/mygermany.html

The gay content is woven in, but hardly a major aspect of the book.

Oh, Amazon! Oh, Morons!

Over here thanks to sartorias, and already said it there, but that is brilliant. Only thing that was better than watching it here was seeing it on your Amazon blog page! You just got yourself a book purchase, as soon as As You Wish available.

Inspiring!
I write mostly heterosexual erotica and have been equally silenced by this secret censorship decision at Amazon. It's pretty depressing, but great to have the chance to laugh. I'm going to share this with my friends and call Amazon myself, cause I know Twilight's making me gay ;-).

I was already laughing when I read the title of your video! I wonder if they are doing this with music as well. Maybe I should call them too, because I'm pretty sure Justin Timberlake made me gay.

Whether or not it's true (hearing about some of the specific titles... like Annie Proulx) makes it a little more plausible something technically went wrong, it's yet another reason to shop at independent stores.

We might have a few customers who try to censor those ubiquitous Porn for Women books for us (for some reason they're way more offensive than anything actually sexual), but it's not a policy!

Your video is really amusing. Classic sarcasm. Thank you for blogging about this. It is so ridiculous that teen novels got flagged as "adult" just because they were gay! But it's all resolved now. Contratulations on your YA novel "As you Wish" from Harper. I'm so glad there is more and more YA with gay visibility.
